PSA used excessively, military presence increased: NC MLA

Jammu: National Conference legislator Agha Syed Ruhullah criticised chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for “promising people a state free of AFSPA and PSA but in reality using these laws excessively during last year’s uprising”.
“How many youths have been detained under PSA? How many PSA orders have been quashed? How many youth are languishing in jail?” he said.
“Even children and elderly persons have been detained under PSA,” he said in the assembly.
The MLA said that during the current government’s rule, army’s presence has actually increased. He credited his party leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah with reducing the presence of government forces from Srinagar city.
He accused the government of handing over schools to government forces and   “converting them into camps against international laws as well domestic laws”, which made them targets of arsonists.
“Who is responsible for burning of schools? Those who converted them into camps or the youths or their parents? You created conditions for this and now you are blaming people for the mess,” he said.
