LEH: CEC LAHDC, Leh, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo unfurled the tricolor at Historic Polo Ground Leh and took salute at march past presented by parade contingents of police, paramilitary forces and school children.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Dawa paid rich tributes to the soldiers and police personal who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
While highlighting the developmental initiatives undertaken in Leh, CEC expressed gratitude to Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti for granting allocation of Rs 50 crore for Leh district and sanctioning of Nubra Development Authority.
Tableaux by Information Department & Cultural Academy Leh, Health, Rural Development Departments and Municipal Committee Leh showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh and government schemes like MGNREGA and Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was the major highlight of today’s Republic day celebration in Leh.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil  Alhaj Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan unfurled the national tricolor at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium and took salute at the march past comprising contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC, civil and police band besides a number of contingents of government and private educational institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Khan while recalled the contribution of the architects of the Constitution and supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their lives for the freedom and well-being of the country. He also praised the services of the army, paramilitary forces and police in guarding the frontiers of the country in harsh weather conditions and for maintaining the internal security.
Kacho highlighted the achievements and current developmental activities undertaken by the present council in Kargil district. He expressed gratitude to the Centre and State Government for their keen interest and concern towards the development of Kargil.
Colorful cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion by the children of government and private schools which mesmerized the public gathering and won huge rounds of applause.
Later the chief guest also gave away prizes to the contingents, artists and school children who participated in the parade and cultural programmes. Mementos and citations were also given to several government employees and individuals for exemplary and meritorious public services.
Republic Day was also celebrated at Sub Division Drass, Sankoo, Zanskar and Shakar Chikten besides Tehsil Tai Suru and Shargole. SDM Zanskar Ghulam Ahmad Khan hoisted the national flag at Civil Helipad Padum, SDM Drass Barkat Ali Lone Nizami at Higher Secondary School Drass, SDM Sankoo Sonam Dorjay at Aga Syed Haider Razvi Memorial Higher Secondary School Sankoo, SDM Shakar Chiktan Ghulam Mehdi at Chiktan Shagaran and Naib Tehsildar Shargole Muhammad Hassan at Higher Secondary School Shargole respectively.
