SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir cricketer Parvez Rasool on Thursday became first cricketer to made his T20I debut against England as India decided to include him in playing XI.
Before the start of the first T20 match against England at Green Park stadium, Kanpur Parvez was presented T20 I cap by former India Off-spinner Sarandeep Singh.
Before this, Parvez has played a lone one-day international against Bangladesh in Dhaka back in 2014. He picked up two wickets in his 10 overs and gave away 60 runs.
27 year old Parvez has played 37 T20 matches in the domestic circuit and picked up 27 wickets. He has also scored 478 runs in the 31 innings he has got to bat in.
On Wednesday while addressing pre match press conference captain Virat Kohli said Parvez, has an ability to bowl with the new ball.
“He (Parvez) is pretty confident; he can bowl with the new ball against the most attacking guys. These two guys are very smart about their bowling. I am sure they will able to replicate their domestic success at this level.”
“It is probably a breakthrough series for them. They haven’t played a big series yet so this might be the perfect opportunity to seal their spots as T20 specialist spinners for the future,” Kohli made it clear as to what is there in stake for youngsters.
I would say it is a series of opportunities for a lot of guys to seal their spots,it is important to back youngsters in the shortest format of the game so that they can gain some confidence and can take this forward in limited overs cricket and also in Test matches. ” the skipper said.
“Team India have a clear vision for youngsters joining the T2OI team,” he added.
Both Parvez Rasool and Yuzvendra Chahal has played under Kohli at Indian Premier League (IPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
