300 transformers damaged: PDD

SRINAGAR: More than 300 power transformers have got damaged amid heavy snow in the Valley.
“In Kashmir we have 25000 transformers out of which we have received reports of damage to more than 300 transformers,” said Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD) Shahnaaz Goni. “Every day we receive information of 70 to 80 damaged transformers and PDD department is trying to solve the problems of power cuts as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, a PDD official said the department has restored electricity to northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district and were working to restore the electricity “in whole of the northern Kashmir which has witnessed more than 3 feet of snow.”
“In south Kashmir’s Kulgam area we are trying to restore the electricity as soon as possible as the area has also witnessed a good amount of snowfall” the official said.
For the past many days, people of different areas have alleged that the PDD was not only resorting to unscheduled power cuts, but did not bother to supply electricity for days together.
