SRINAGAR: Terming the awarding of death sentence to Muzaffar Ahmad Rather by a Kolkata court as “against the internationally accepted norms of justice and fair play”, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the youth had been targeted “just for being a Kashmiri”.
In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz said, “Indian judiciary had in past also displayed miscarriage of justice in cases of Kashmiris and this was yet another addition to this long list.”
Meanwhile, senior leader of the amalgam Mukhtar Ahmad Waza visited Jogipora, Kulgam and expressed solidarity with the family of Muzaffar. They also staged a protest demonstration against the verdict.
On the occasion, Mirwaiz also called the youth’s parents over phone and while expressing solidarity with them said they “should not feel alone in this hour of difficulty”.e an hour’s walk from the LoC near Uri.
