Baramulla: For 15 years, people of Waripora village near Dhobiwan Tangmarg have been waiting for a transformer installed in their village to start functioning, and their wait seems to be unending.
On Tuesday the villagers took out a protest on Srinagar-Gulmarg highway in an effort to bring the Power Development Department out of slumber.
“They installed this transformer here in year 2002 but kept it non-functional due to unknown reasons. At times they said a cable was needed, and at other times they made other excuses. However, cable is attached to the transformer, they are just making excuses,” a resident of the village said.
The resident also added that the 25KV transformer was no longer sufficient for village as the population had grown up manifold since 2002.
“We fail to understand why PDD has kept this transformer for display here and let the village reel into darkness,” another protestor said.
“They come with hefty power bills every month and are unashamed of keeping a transformer idle for 15 years. We are tired now and are forced to come out in protest,” he said.
