Pakherpora observes shutdown on militant’s death anniversary

Srinagar: Locals in Pakherpora area of Budgam on Sunday observed a complete shutdown on the death anniversary of slain militant Master Shakeel Ahmad.

Shops and business establishments remained shut in view of the shutdown, according to locals, to commemorate the second death anniversary of the militant.

Shakeel was killed in an encounter with the government forces on January 15, 2015 in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Traffic services in and around Pakherpora hamlet was also affected in view of the shutdown.
People thronged to the residence of Shakeel to meet and offer condolences to the family of the slain militant.

Before joining militant ranks, Shakeel was a working journalist and later also worked in the government education department. He was killed along with four other militants from Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen.
