Intimidating Muslims is RSS plan: Mirwaiz
Srinagar: Intimidation of Muslims living in Jammu is not acceptable to any Kashmiri, JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik said on Friday. Malik said that the RSS-backed PDP-BJP government was promoting communalism in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Malik said the RSS and other communal organisations have been given a free hand to terrorise Muslims.
He said this “government-sponsored communal terrorism” is not acceptable to any Kashmiri and “we as a living nation stand against it and want to assure our brethren in Jammu that we are ready to do everything possible for stopping chauvinist attacks on them.”
JKLF leaders and activists staged a protest sit-in on Friday against attacks on Muslims in Kathua. They marched from JKLF office at Abiguzar towards Lal Chowk center. Police and state forces had blocked the road leading towards Lal Chowk center, which compelled the participants to sit down on the road and hold a peaceful protest. Various JKLF leaders addressed the protesters who raised slogans in favour of freedom and against intimidation of Muslims living in Jammu. The protest was organised on the appeal of the joint resistance leadership. Protestors sat on the road for about an hour.
APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday strongly condemned the attack on Muslims in Kathua and said that the goons of the RSS enjoy complete immunity and openly brandish their weapons with the support of police and state authorities.
Mirwaiz said that targeting Muslims and intimidating them is part of the right-wing brigade’s plan, executed with the help of most willing and servile collaborators.
Mirwaiz said what this brigade and its agencies don’t seem to understand despite the recent people’s revolt is that Kashmiris cannot be cowed down.
Referring to Mehbooba Mufti’s statement in which she blamed the resistance leadership for a  “pre-planned agitation”, Mirwaiz said that in the same statement Mehbooba goes on to say, “it(agitation) happened all of a sudden; after Burhan Wani’s killing, people came out in large and unexpected numbers which we did not expect”. Mirwaiz said such contradictions in the utterances of the collaborators are natural as over the past 70 years to stay on the chair, they have to speak lies to mislead and distort the truth.
Commenting on the offer of ex gratia relief to the victims, Mirwaiz said that ex-gratia relief is a dole and not legal compensation which is an internationally guaranteed right of a victim’s family. Mirwaiz said doles are used as mechanisms of control and manipulation. Mirwaiz reiterated that as a community we have to stand by and provide continuous support to the families of those killed, blinded and maimed by the state forces. Mirwaiz said that we are duty bound to memorialise our martyrs and remember them time and again.
