Monitoring teams to conduct raids

Srinagar: The state government has clarified that the teaching faculty of education department was barred from indulging in any business including teaching in private tuitions or coaching centers.
A fresh order issued by the Directorate of Education said, “Strict disciplinary action is to be initiated immediately against any Principal, Head Master, Lecturer, Master, Teacher or ReT involved in the practice of private tuition or involved with any private coaching institution/center in any capacity.”
Officials said an earlier order prohibiting teachers from taking part in private tuitions was misinterpreted as it carried the clause “without permission”.
“This has been misinterpreted that with permission teachers can take up work at the coaching centers. The Supreme Court has made it clear that there is a total ban on the practice of private tuition by any teacher or lecturer. Some of the teachers are still violating the norms. We have issued orders at district level to inform all the CEOs (Chief Education Officer) to look into the matter,” Javaid Ahmed, an official in Education department said.
The order seeks to prohibit indulgence of teachers in any activity that impacts their duties and responsibility towards their students.
Officials said that monitoring units comprising of “some confidential people” have been set up in all districts, to check and report about the “illegal practice” by teachers.
The monitoring units will report to the concerned chief education officers about teachers teaching in a coaching center in their vicinity.
“In Anantnag district, the monitoring unit has started its work. In Baramalla, they will start from tomorrow and some other districts will start monitoring soon,” Ahmad said.
“We have got to know from our monitoring units that these teachers start their private tuitions at some places soon after afternoon prayers, so we are looking keenly at the issue,” he added.
Arif Iqbal Malik, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar has already received names of the some teachers.
“My team has given me some names and we are finding out where they are teaching. I will conduct surprise raid on such private tuitions and such teachers will be suspended,” Malik said.
