Srinagar: After remaining under detention for six months, Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar was released Monday evening.
Akbar was released from Raj Bagh Police Station, sources said.
Akbar was arrested six months ago and was detained first at Parimpora police station, then shifted to Srinagar Central Jail and later to Humhama police station, where he was booked under the draconian Public Safety Act.
He was taken to Kot Balwal jail in Jammu on September 19.
The High Court later quashed his detention and directed police to release him.
Soon after the HC orders, authorities released and re-arrested him in no time and imprisoned him at Joint Interrogation Centre, Jammu.
Akbar had been brought to Srinagar on January 7 and lodged at Police station Rajbagh, where he was finally released this evening.
