Jammu: Ranbir Singh Pathania, MLA Ramnagar on Tuesday sought time frame for the state to enforce the ‘model police act’.
In its written reply, the government said the draft model police act has been prepared in 2013 and put in public domain to elicit suggestions and opinions from various stakeholders. The draft will be processed further for approval for competent authority. However, the govt further clarified that in the follow up of directions of Supreme Court and in anticipation of the enactment of appropriate legislation, the police department has set up an ‘internal mechanism’ to deal with the complaints against the police personnel.
During the period of 01-02-2015 to 31-01-2016, 244 complaints have been filed against various ranks of police personnel and action as warranted against rules is being initiated. Pathania had also sought the status of inquiry in to the misappropriations in to the alleged Rs 115.68 crores Security Related Expenditure (SRE) by certain police officers of Srinagar police, during conduct of Parliamentary and Assembly Elections,2014.
The government said the enquiry report submitted by Crime branch endorsed by PHQ is under the consideration of Administrative department.
