Baramulla: A militant was killed in an ambush laid by government forces in Hartaar village of Sopore, Baramulla district, on Tuesday, police said.
The militant identified as Umar Khattab from Pakistan belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit and was active in the area for the past four years, police said.
Sopore senior superintendent of police Harmeet Singh said the forces had cordoned off the area after receiving information about the presence of two militants.
“The militant was killed in an ambush when he fired upon forces,” he said, adding the forces have launched a hunt for the second militant.
An assistant sub-inspector of Central Reserve Police Force was injured when police fired at him in Murran Chowk, Pulwama. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
