I will ensure civilian safety: DGP-designate

Srinagar: The designated Director General of Police Dr Shesh Paul Ved on Thursday said that he would ensure safety of common people and promised no common man would be harassed unnecessarily.
Talking to a local news gathering agency Ved, who is serving as Special DG (Coordination & Law and Order) said the said the media has to play a vital role to set things back on the right track in Kashmir.
Ved, a resident of Jammu, was designated to be the new police chief to replace K Rajindra who is serving an extension period of three months and would relinquish office next week.
“I would expect media to report positively which is the need of the hour. Media is mostly highlighting negative things like wherever police uses excessive force. Media wo dikhati hai jahan police waley ka dhanda chaley. They should also highlight when a traffic cop holds hand of an old man and helps him to cross the road. These things also need to be reported,” Vaid said.
He said his focus will be to make police force friendlier and no innocent is harassed unnecessarily.
