Pulwama: Residents of Arihal village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district staged protests against power development department and blocked Shopian-Pulwama road for about one hour while protesting in front of executive engineer’s office.
The protestors were demanding installation of 100 KV transformer at the Kumar Mohalla habitation.
Police and revenue officials pacified the protesters and assured them that they would convey their grievances to the concerned authorities.
The residents of the village alleged that the employees of the department were unnecessarily putting them to hassles by installing old transformer in the locality.
“For the past three years, the department has been making false assurances of providing 100 KV transformer but till date we have been ferrying the same old 63 KV from our village to PDD workshop,” said Mohammad Ashraf a resident.
Local executive engineer said the habitation was provided a transformer but the residents refused to take it.
