DD employee suffers cardiac arrest after ‘thrashing’ by officer

SRINAGAR: The employees of state-run Doordarshan Kendra in Srinagar on Wednesday held a protest demonstration against the alleged thrashing and abusing of a clerk Mohammad Shafi by the head of the station, Prakash Veer during the working hours.
As per reports the said clerk was allegedly abused and manhandled by head of the station during the daily conduct of official work at the station. During checking of a file, the officer allegedly abused his sub-ordinate and later manhandled him in a fit of rage in his office chambers.
The situation took an ugly turn when Mohammad Shafi informed his colleagues about the thrashing incident. The colleagues staged a protest demonstration in the premises of the station and raised slogans against the “arrogant and discriminatory” behaviour of the officer, who is designated as deputy director general (engineering).
Sources said that during the protests Shafi suffered cardiac arrest and was immediately shifted to hospital.
A DD employee told Kashmir Reader that the officer’s behaviour was unacceptable. We demand justice for Mohammad Shafi and action against the rowdy behaviour of the officer,” he said.
Veer refuted the allegation as baseless. “The allegations are totally baseless. I have not misbehaved and abused the employee. No such incident has happened at the station. In fact, we quickly escorted the ailing employee to the hospital for treatment,” Veer told Kashmir Reader.
When asked as to how the employee suffered cardiac arrest, he said that Shafi had a history of cardiac problem. “We are not responsible for this,” he said.
Head of the programmes at DD, GD Tahir also refuted the allegation of thrashing of the employee at the hands of the senior officer. “I don’t know what happened but I also accompanied the employee to the hospital,” he said.
