Police arrest youth who snatched rifle in Shopian

Kulgam/Shopian: A relative of a former legislator on Wednesday snatched the service rifle of the personal security guard (PSO) deployed with the MLC in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

“Muhammd Abbas  Khanday, son of Mohammad Ayoub resident of Zakhan Keller village, has snatched an AK-47 rifle along with 30 rounds from the PSO of a former MLC (member of legislative council),” a police official said.

“Waseem is a relative of former MLC Abdul Rehman Tukroo.”

“He has been on wanted list of the security forces for quite some time and reports said that he used to visit Tukroo’s residence,” the police said.

Meanwhile, police said that the youth who snatched a rifle from police station Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam was arrested on Wednesday. A police official told news agency CNS that the snatched rifle was also recovered from the youth. He identified the arrested youth as Ishfaq Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Gani a resident of Damhal Hanjipora.
