Budgam: Like the residents of Sopore, Baramulla, and Shopian, people in Budgam have put up sand bags around power transformers to prevent them from the bullets of government troops.
Residents of Budran, Aripanthan, Hazarpora, Kandhama, Khansahab, Beerwah, Rathsun, and Ompora areas have erected walls of sand bags 5-10 feet high around the transformers to save them from the guns of government forces.
“The forces have targeted transformers with bullets in our villages due to which we have been reeling under darkness,” a resident of Rathsun village said.
Government forces damaged transformers in Rathsun village after a pro-freedom rally took place there on Monday.
Residents said that troops have damaged four transformers in Mazhama and Kanihama villages a few days ago.
“It has now become the routine for the Indian troopers to damage electric transformers in the whole Kashmir,” Arshid, a resident of Rathsun, said.
