Amnesty Urgent Action appeal to free Khurram Parvez

Srinagar: Amnesty International has issued an Urgent Action appeal to secure the release of Khurram Parvez, noted rights defender and programme coordinator of Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society. In its appeal Amnesty has urged people to immediately write to either Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti or K Rajendra Kumar, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, or SK Mishra, Director General of Prisons Jammu and Kashmir, asking:
To immediately and unconditionally release Khurram Parvez or charge him with an internationally recognizable criminal offence and try him in accordance with international standards.
Pending his release, ensure Parvez Khurram is not subjected to torture or any other ill-treatment, and that he has regular and unrestricted access to his lawyers and provided adequate medical care and attention.
To immediately lift any travel bans imposed on him.

Amnesty has requested that appeals be sent before November 3 and a copy also sent to diplomatic representatives accredited to one’s country. Amnesty has provided the address and contact numbers of the authorities to which the appeals should be sent. These are:
