Bar foresees Indo-Pak nuclear war, urges UN states to save Kashmiris

SRINAGAR: Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Monday appealed all the member States of United Nations Organisation to save the people of Kashmir from an “imminent threat of nuclear war between India and Pakistan.”
In a statement issued here, the lawyers’ body urged the member states to put pressure on India to concede to the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir.
“Going by the statements emanating from the leaders of the two countries, there is possibility of a nuclear war, which will devastate the whole of the sub-continent and cause tremendous miseries and sufferings to the people,” it said.
The lawyers’ body said it wants to remind the people of the World that it was for saving the succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which till then, had brought untold sorrow and suffering to the mankind that the United Nations was brought into existence for maintaining international peace and security and to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of economic, social, cultural or humanitarian character.
The United Nations in the past seventy years, it said, has no doubt solved many a problems of the World but in so far as Kashmir is concerned, it has failed to get its 28 resolutions implemented as a result of which the people of Kashmir have suffered and are suffering terrible “oppression at the hands of Indian occupational forces in Kashmir.”
The lawyers’ body once again reiterates that in order to establish conditions under which international peace and security is maintained in the World and more particularly in the sub-continent, Kashmir issue is necessarily to be solved in accordance with the Security Council Resolutions, by giving a chance to the people of Kashmir to chose about their future in a free, fair and impartial plebiscite.
“If it is not so done, then the threat of war shall always remain hovering over their heads, which will continue to remain a cause of mental, physical and psychological disturbance,” it said.
The Bar Association also called upon the government of India and its leaders to fulfill the promise made by its leaders to the people of the Kashmir, both inside and outside the Parliament and also stop the systematic “genocide” Kashmiris by use of bullets and pellets against them.
“They should respect their human rights, not only in the context of UN Charter, but also in the light of the divine directives of Almighty Allah and their off repeated slogans of Insaaniyat and Jamooriyat.”
Meanwhile the Bar Association condemned the use of force against the innocent people of Vihil Shopian who were peacefully protesting against the human rights violations and demanding the settlement of Kashmir in accordance with the wishes of the people.
