Srinagar: Dr Syed Amin Tabish has resumed duties at SKIMS hospital Soura as Medical Superintendent. He resumed duties after winning a service case at the J&K High Court in which the division bench dismissed the appeal of the petitioner. In its judgment, the bench comprising Chief Justice NP Vasanthakumar and Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir upheld the judgments of the Writ Court of 20-10-2014 and 17-12-2015 ordering to restore the position substantively held by Dr Tabish. In pursuance to Govt Order No. 30-SKIMS of 2016, Dr Tabish assumed the office on September 17.
Dr Tabish was appointed MS of SKIMS hospital in 2009 after serving as head of the Accident and Emergency Department for about 13 years.
After doing his MMBS from GMC Srinagar, he did post graduation from AIIMS, post-doctoral fellowship from England, FRCP, FAMS, FACP and doctorate in educational leadership in USA.
Dr Tabish is a medical scientist, academician and researcher with 20 years of professional experience in healthcare, medical education and scientific research. He has 400 research publications and has authored half a dozen textbooks on health policy, planning, management, emergency medicine, and medical education. He is also editor of more than a dozen international medical journals and recipient of 30 international and national awards.
Dr Tabish has worked in world-class universities, educational institutions and teaching hospitals in UK, USA and Saudi Arabia. He worked as Project Director of two medical colleges and a 750-bed university hospital and project adviser of a premier university in Saudi Arabia during 2006-07.
He was the first medical scientist from India selected to represent India in The World Health Forum held at Dallas Texas USA in 1998. He was offered Directorship of International Institute of Health Management & Research Jaipur, Professor of Medical Education, Taibah University (Madina) Saudi Arabia, and Dean/Director Post of Arogyam Medical College & Hospital Roorkie during 2013-15.
Earlier as MS with then Director Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, Dr Tabish was instrumental in obtaining Rs 400 crore for a multi-storey OPD, 200-bed additional ward block, separate accident and emergency services, and advanced trauma center. He played a key role in upgrading and modernizing the Accident and Emergency department at SKIMS and also established a Disaster Management Programme and introduced the unique “level system” concept in the treatment of emergency patients. He significantly contributed in starting MSc Nursing course at SKIMS besides enhancing the number of seats for BSc Nursing. During 2009 and 2010 when the State was passing through most difficult times, he ensured optimal functioning of SKIMS hospital for which he was appreciated by all.
Dr Tabish is on the panel of experts for selection of faculty at AIIMS New Delhi, SGPGI, etc, besides being an MCI Inspector & Assessor.
