Srinagar: The government, which a couple of days ago appealed to the resistance leadership to ‘give peace a chance’, today prevented journalists from attending the press conference Syed Ali Geelani was scheduled to address at his residence.
Early morning, scores of police and CRPF men sealed off Hydepora to prevent media persons from entering Geelani’s residence.
Government troops laid razor wires across all roads at Hyderpora chowk. Journalists who reached the lane leading to Geelani’s residence found it barricaded with policemen and their vehicles.
Police did not allow journalists to stay near the lane and forced them to leave. Even photojournalists were not allowed to click photos of the scene. A cop aimed the barrel of his gun at a senior photojournalist working for an international news agency when he tried to capture on lens a policeman deflating the tyre of a motorbike. An officer had to intervene for the cop to lower his gun.
