Baramulla: Several cricket players who live in Palhalen and adjoining villages in Baramulla on Tuesday staged a unique protest in favour of freedom. Witnesses said that dozens of cricket players wearing cricket uniform gathered with bats and balls under the banner of Cricket Association Palhalen at the compounds of government middle school Palhalen to hold an anti-India and pro-freedom protest. On the occasion, one of the cricketers said that the Indian home minister had recently announced more funds to promote sports in Kashmir, but this protest was being held to make clear that Kashmir’s youth first wanted freedom and then any sports.
The cricketers marched through lanes of Palhalen village with their cricket kits and later dispersed peacefully. Some of the players had covered their legs, arms, eyes and heads with white cotton bandage to show how Indian forces had disabled sports players in Kashmir.
