‘Vendors had refused to fake normalcy’

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Saturday said that Macca Market at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, was demolished after the vendors associated with it refused to fake normalcy and provide audience for PDP rally.
In a statement issued here, the conglomerate said that the ruling PDP and police were forcing the vendors to open the place to give “an impression of normalcy”.
“Local PDP MLA along with their armed wing (police) threatened and representatives of this market to open a few shops to just give the impression of normalcy. When the shopkeepers refused to budge or dent, the said politician with the help of police muscle and vandalism, razed the whole market to ground,” it said.
“The MLA even compelled these poor guys to provide a crowd of 20-30 people for the PDP public meeting, failing which they may invite trouble for them,” it added.
