Srinagar: Several photojournalists were thrashed and injured by the government forces at Batmaloo here on Saturday.
The journalists said they were beaten up by the policemen on the orders of station house officer (SHO) Batmaloo.
“The SHO Batmaloo told us to deal sternly with the press photographers by beating them to pulp,” the photojournalists quoted the policemen as saying.
A spokesperson of photojournalists’ representative association, Kashmir Press Photographers Association (KPPA), said that the policemen deployed in the area tried to prevent the media persons from covering the situation in the locality.
The policemen, he said, didn’t even respect the curfew passes provided to media by the state administration, and abused and thrashed the photojournalists.
Following the incident, the photojournalists, mainly associated with Kashmir-based newspapers, staged a sit-in protest against the forces action.
