Non-local’s body retrieved from Jhelum

Srinagar: Tensions erupted in Lal Chowk after a body of youth was fished out from River Jhelum at Amira Kadal here.

Reports said that body of the unidentified youth, a non-Muslim and looking like a Nepali from his appearance, was recovered from Jhelum near Ganikhan market. The body, reports said, had ‘bruise marks’ and as the people found it, they took the body and offered funeral prayers at Maisuma and Amira Kadal. Later police reached the spot and took the body by firing teargas shells.

The tensions resulted in closure of shops in Lal Chowk – which opened after 6 pm according to programme of resistance leadership..  “He is a non-Muslim as the body was without circumcision,” a police official said.   It was revealed at a time of post-mortem, he said. “The body is semi-decomposed and Rs 503 was recovered from clothes he was wearing,” he said, adding that the identity is being ascertained.(GNS)
