Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have told Syed Ali Geelani that he alone will be representing the joint resistance leadership till their release from incarceration.
The trio together constituted the ‘united resistance leadership’ and has been issuing protest programmes in consulation with each other.
The united resistance leadership, brainchild of Yasin Malik, was formed to chalk out a joint strategy against such government initiatives as soldiers’ residential clusters.
Kashmir Reader learnt that Mirwaiz communicated to Geelani from Chashmashahi sub jail that “you can issue protest calendar on your own and we support it completely”.
Mirwaiz has also told Geelani that “he won’t be obliged to consult any of Mirwaiz’s subordinates” about protest programmes.
Yasin Malik, who has been jailed since the uprising started, had also told Geelani soon after his arrest that “you lead people and I endorse your decisions.”
After Mirwaiz’s arrest, other members of the Hurriyat Conference led by him used to whet protest programme issued by Geelani.
“My faith right now is in complete unity. We should follow a single unified strategy,” a source said, quoting Mirwaiz’s last message to Geelani.
Mirwaiz is also learnt to have told Geelani that he won’t talk or listen to anyone from the state if they come to meet him.
“The Mirwaiz has said that ‘if the state thrusts a meeting on me, I will put the condition that I should be allowed to meet Geelani sahab and Malik sahab and the three of us would decide on what steps to take,’” the source said.
Mirwaiz is learnt to have told Geelani that the greatest strength of the ongoing uprising is “our unity”.
