SRINAGAR: A special prayer was held by residents of Chattabal, Srinagar, on Thursday.
Javaid Hasnain, one of the organisers of the prayers, told Kashmir Reader the Surah Nuh (Noah) (chapter 71 of the Holy Quran) was recited 1,000 times by three dozen people in two shifts during the day.
“The beauty of reciting this Surah is that it weakens the morale of the enemy and strengthens the spirit of those who are fighting against the falsehood. The humanity at this time is on the brink of the precipice, particularly the people of the Kashmir valley. Allah’s help can only save us now. We arranged these prayers to invoke the help of the Creator,” said the Imam, who was leading the prayers.
The first shift was held from 10 am to 1 pm while the second was held from 2:15 pm to 3:30 pm in the mosque at Maidanpora, Chattabal.
After an hour, each participant was asked the number of times he read the chapter and then the overall number was calculated. A participant read the chapter 80 times.
Asif Bhat, a participant said that people from all sects attended the prayers.
