Police, SOG raids Jamaat headquarter

Srinaga: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir expresses its anger and anxiety over the raid made by Police and SOG personnel at its headquarter Batamaloo here and termed it ‘unjustified’ and ‘undemocratic’.
In a statement issued by Press & Publication department of the organization, ‘Police and other SOG personnel raided Jama’at headquarters in Batmaloo today at around 11:30 am. Government forces first cordoned off the building, barged inside, searched and asked about the Jama’at leaders, statement reads.
‘They searched the entire building and later arrested Advocate Zahid Ali, spokesperson and political bureau head of Jama’at’, who was present in the office. Pertinently Zahid Ali was earlier detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police at Nowgam when he was on way to Pulwama.
Notably, government forces have arrested many top and lower cadre of Jama’at activists from valley. From Sopore, 75 year old Jama’at leader Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh, who is known face of Jama’at in the area have been slapped by Public Safety Act (PSA). (KNS)
