PDP’s Rainawari unit calls it quits

Srinagar: A group of office-bearers and workers of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday resigned from the basic membership of the party in Rainawari area of old Srinagar. They said they wished to contribute to the pro-freedom movement in Kashmir.
The workers were close to junior health minister Aesia Naqash and worked for her during election campaigns.
Tamim Ahmad Patloo, general secretary of the party’s Rainawari unit, said that he and his associates have quit the ruling party because it has failed to safeguard the interests of the common people of Kashmir. “We have got killings and pellet injuries instead of development and employment,” he said.
Gulam Muhammad Gujree, Farooq Ahmad Baba and Manzoor Ahmad Pahalwan—other PDP functionaries—also said that they have resigned from the party to respect the prevailing public sentiment in Kashmir. “We have quit the pro-India politics and have dedicated ourselves to the cause of Kashmir’s freedom,” they said.
