Surankot: A protest demonstration was organised in Poshana village of Surankote in Poonch district by Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement against “the war declared by the government of India on innocent people of Kashmir.”
Chairman JKPM and Hurriyat leader Mir Shahid Saleem said in a statement: “Indian forces in Kashmir are conducting themselves as if they were at war with the innocent and unarmed civilians who are protesting against gross human rights violations.”
“Indian forces are engaged in full scale genocide of Kashmiris to crush their ongoing struggle for the right to self-determination,” he said.
Saleem said that India has failed to break the resolve of freedom-loving people of Kashmir despite “the worst kind of oppression”.
Several protests have been held in Muslim-majority areas of Chenab Valley region in Jammu division. Demonstrations in these areas have become increasingly difficult because of the pressure of Hindu right-wing organisations. About half a dozen people have been booked under the draconian Public Safety Act for participating in such protests.
Slamming India for blaming Pakistan for Kashmir uprising, he said people of the Jammu and Kashmir have been waging an indigenous political struggle for their right to self-determination and Pakistan and any other country has no role in it.
He said People of Kashmir are grateful to the people and govt of Pakistan for the moral, political and diplomatic support being extended to the Kashmir cause. He welcomed the appointment of 22 MPs by the govt of Pakistan to garner the global support for the Kashmir cause. He urged upon the international community to help the people of Kashmir achieve their goal of right to self-determination. He expressed hope that concerted efforts being made by Pakistan would go a long way in building the world opinion in favour of the oppressed people of Kashmir.
