Srinagar: Muzaffar Wani, father of Hizb commander Burhan Wani whose killing last month triggered yet another anti-India uprising, addressed reporters at his home in Tral on Sunday. The press meet was called a day after Indian spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar posted a picture that showed him with Muzaffar Wani at his Bangalore ashram. The picture triggered speculations about the meeting being part of some TrackII initiative.
Following is what Wani told reporters:
After Burhan saeb was martyred, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called me and offered condolences. He said he wanted to meet me. I told him that I have to come there (Bangalore) for treatment and I will try to meet him there. I felt it was safe to stay at Sri Sri’s Ashram as I had gone for treatment (for diabetes) at the Sri Sri Ayurvedic Research Centre. I stayed there for two days and explained to Ravi Shankar the reality of Kashmir.Since there is a communication blockade in the valley and Indian media is also not playing its role positively as far as Kashmir issue is concerned so my intention was clear that besides seeking treatment I will be able to convey to him what was actually happening in Kashmir.
I told him that Kashmiris only want Azadi from India and India should keep the promise that Jawahar Lal Nehru made to them. He showed me videos of Syria war. I told him much worse is being done in Kashmir. I told him that unfortunately I am not carrying my mobile phone along with me as i could have shown you what is being done to the people of Kashmir.
In reply to his question to whom should India talk to in Kashmir, I clearly told him that I am a common man and a teacher and India should unconditionally talk to the leaders representing Kashmiris like Geelani sahab, Yasin Malik sahab, Mirwaiz sahab and Shabir Shah sahab.
(To a reporter’s question whether Ravi Shankar’s call was part of the dialogue process India wanted to initiate with Kashmiris) I cannot say. That might also be the case. I found Ravi Shankar a man with positive thinking and approach. My meeting with him will bear fruit. Had ministers in the government of India been like him, Kashmir issue would have been resolved long back.
(Asked what message he wanted to convey to Kashmiris after his meeting with Ravi Shankar). My people should not get worried. Muzaffar Wani will always be Mazaffar Wani and will never be a traitor. Burhan’s blood will bear fruit.
