Kashmir: Cops resign ‘publicly’ in Sopore

Sopore: At Behrampora village of Sopore town on Monday evening, two Special Police Officers (SPOs) of the J&K Police’s Special Operation Group, Firdous Ahmed and Waseem Ahmed Shiekh, informed the locals that they want to resign from the police department publicly.
“On Monday evening, Waseem Ahmed, a resident of Behrampora posted at SDPO office Rafiabad Sopore, publicly resigned while another cop Firdous Ahmed, a resident of Thakgund Sopore, sent word that he, too, will resign from the job,” said a resident of Behrampora.
Locals said that shortly after the killing of local Hurriyat activist Fayaz Ahmed Rather on July 29 by unknown gunmen, people had asked local policemen to resign from the department. “Both the cops on Monday evening announced their resignations. But so far only Waseem Ahmed made a public announcement in this regard while Firdous Ahmed has promised to do so,” said locals.
Police officials said that nobody had tendered resignation as yet.
