SRINAGAR: Terming Indian finance minister Arun Jaitley’s statement “unrealistic”, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally-recognised dispute and can’t be changed by these “false statements”.
He advised Indian politicians to shun their “ego” and “stubbornness”, accept the ground realities and come forward to address this basic issue according to the wishes and aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Terming the finance Minister’s statement at Jammu “far from reality” and “delivered from the mighty pedestal of arrogance”, he said that it seems as if some “uniformed person is terrorising the common masses”. “We have been striving for our basic right—right to self-determination—for the last 70 years, and it is your armed forces who disturb peace by unabated killings, maiming thousands, and besieging whole population,” he said.
He accused the pro-India politicians and the “biased media of India” of “deliberately and dishonestly” depriving people of India of the existing realities in Kashmir. “They prevent their population from knowing the words like territorial dispute, militarization, and occupation. But they parrot them with their own chosen words as peace, ordinarily people, tourism and separatism,” he said.
Referring to the repeated Pakistan bashing, Geelani said that it was not something new. “Indian politicians are suffering from Pakistan-phobia and they hold Pakistan responsible even for floods and plagues in their country,” he said.
