SRINAGAR: Pakistan has stated that the United Nations has a responsibility to ensure implementation of its resolutions on the Kashmir dispute, a report by Radio Pakistan said.
According to the report, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Nafees Zakaria, said in an interview reiterated that Kashmir is an internationally-recognised dispute, as the United Nations has adopted resolutions on it calling for plebiscite giving the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
Zakaria said the international human rights organisations and the countries with record of human rights should raise voice over the atrocities being committed against the Kashmiris so that this violence could be brought to an end.
“The OIC secretary general’s visit to Pakistan proved very useful in respect of highlighting the Kashmir issue. The OIC secretary general strongly condemned the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir, and urged the international community to play its role to stop it,” Zakaria was quoted as saying.
“The UN secretary general, in reply to the letter written by prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, also deplored the brutalities being committed against the Kashmiris, and also offered mediation on resolution of the dispute,” Zakaria added.
