Kashmir: Forces arrest youth in Lolab

Srinagar: Forces arrested a youth, Jahangir Ahmad Dar after they raided Cherkote Lolab of frontier district Kupwara Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile the action triggered violent protests resulting the use of teargas shelling by security forces. As per the reports hundreds of people chased the forces away. However, locals alleged that police and CRPF ransacked the whole village.

“They damaged the houses and assaulted people, whoever came in their way,” a local, Ghulam Mohiudin told KNS.
ASP Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad while terming it a mere law and order issue informed that the situation is under control.
However according to the statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, five incidents of stone pelting were reported from Anantnag, Baramulla and Sopore on Saturday.
“These incidents were reported from Dooru in Anantnag, Sheeri in Baramulla and Seelo, Hib Dangerpora and Pothkhah in Sopore.
“The miscreants assembled on roads and pelted stones on police and security forces,” the statement said adding apart from these incidents situation remained under control across the valley till the last reports came in.
However, “restrictions under section 144/CrPC remained in force in the Valley today and curfew was imposed in Srinagar, Anantnag and Pampore towns only,” the statement added. (KNS)
