ISPs told to suspend internet services

Srinagar: The authorities on Friday directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to shut down their internet services across the Valley. Media reports said that numerous service providers have received phone calls from government authorities telling them to suspend the internet services, especially to media organisations.
Mobile internet and phone services, except government-owned BSNL, have already been suspended by the government since the uprising started in the Valley.
On Thursday, for the second time, post-paid phone services of non-BSNL service providers were blocked after they were restored a few days ago.
The authorities also raided the printing presses of various newspaper organizations and seized their printed copies. The ‘media gag’ had come under criticism by editors and civil society members both within and outside the Valley.
