SRINAGAR: Paying glowing tributes to Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and all the “martyrs” of 2008 uprising on their eighth anniversary, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Wednesday said Kashmiris had been fighting for the fulfilment of their basic Right of Self Determination since 1931 and the resistance movement after going through different stages “was at a sensitive and crucial phase of history that calls for showing steadfastness and unity”.
Stressing that the biggest tributes that people could pay to the martyrs of Kashmir was to “exhibit unity, steadfastness and resolve to take their struggle for just rights forward despite hardships, he appealed the freedom-loving people of Kashmir to follow the programs given by the unified resistance leadership in letter and spirit and make their bond with the resistance movement stronger to repay the martyrs for their contributions”.
On the martyrdom anniversary of Aziz, Mirwaiz appealed people to head towards Martyrs Graveyard at Eidgah on Thursday.
Strongly condemning the government for bringing out lists of minor and teenage boys of Srinagar and other districts and bribing people with reward if they get them arrested as highly immoral and deplorable, Mirwaiz said, “this way authorities were playing havoc with the future of these innocent children and pitting Kashmiri against Kashmiri and further deteriorating the already hostile situation in Kashmir.”
Warning the government of avoiding “anti-people” tactics of cracking a whip on the unarmed and innocent children and youth of Kashmir, the Mirwaiz said, “Such deplorable tactics would not be able to break the will of the freedom-loving people and will yield government nothing.”
