Protest at Sumbal after man killed in army accident

Sumbal: Protests rocked Sumbal, Bandipora, in north Kashmir on Monday after an army vehicle hit a car resulting in on-spot death of a civilian. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir, of Ahan, Ganderbal.
A police official told Kashmir Reader that the car, on way to Shilwat, was hit by the army vehicle near Petrol Station at Wangipoora, Sumbal.
A case under has been registered and army driver, identified as Amul Patel of 13 RR, has been arrested, he said. The body was handed over to the family for the last rites after completion of all formalities, the official said.
Soon after the incident, people took to streets and tried to set ablaze the army vehicle. They set on fire an abandoned post of the armed police in the locality.
