Kashmir: Army vehicle mows down civilian in Sumbal

Srinagar: Protests rocked Sumbal after an army vehicle hit a car resulting in the on spot death of a civilian on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir of Ahan Ganderbal.

An police official told Kashmir Reader that the car was hit by Army’s Casper vehicle near Petrol pump Wangipoora area of Sumbal while the deceased was on way to Shilwat .

A case 138/2016 279/304 A ,427 RPC has been registered and army driver identified as Amul Patel of 13 RR has been arrested.

The body has been handed over to his family for last rites after completion of all formalities, the official said.

Soon after the incident, people took to streets and tried to set ablaze the army vehicle.

An abandoned post of the armed police has been set on fire near new bridge Sumbal.
