Locals allege ransacking of houses
ANANTNAG : Atleast seven people including four women were injured in teargas shelling and pellet firing by the government forces in Samthan village of Bijbehara Monday. Villagers told Kashmir Reader on phone that the police and Para-military forces came to the village at around 9 am and without any provocation fired pellet munition and tearsmoke shells on a group of youth who had assembled on a village road. The forces, they alleged , also forced their entry into many houses and broke their window glasses and other household goods.
Following the police action huge number of people including women came out of their houses, held protests and clashed with forces. During the clashes at least seven persons including three women sustained plethora injuries. They were removed to sub-district hospital Bijbehara where from three of them were referred to SMHS Srinagar on the basis of severity of their injuries. “Three women who had severe multiple pellet injuries including in their eyes were referred to Srinagar while as four are being treated here,” said a doctor posted at the hospital. Back of a woman including her neck, he said, was completely bruised and her condition was critical.
The injured were identified as Ruby Jan, Haseena, Renu Jan , Adil Ahmad , Firdosa Akhter and Towseef Ahmad.
The protests and clashes were on in the area till this report was being filed.
