Mohammad Subhan of Sopore, who was admitted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, said he and a couple of women from his family were going towards the sub-district hospital to visit a patient there. On way, he said a couple of hundred youths were protesting against the bloodbath unleashed by government forces over the past seven days.
“The forces chased the protesters and in the melee I and my granddaughter also ran away. However, my granddaughter left her slippers behind. When the protesters dispersed I went to get her slippers but a soldier came from behind and hit my head with his baton,” Subhan told Kashmir Reader at the surgical emergency ward of the SMHS Hospital, his Khan dress stained with blood.
“I rushed towards the main road where an officer stopped me and asked me what happened. I told him what happened and he asked me to sit by the roadside. I told him why should I sit I would go to hospital and then I ran towards the ambulance that was passing by,” he said.
After being given first aid at Sopore hospital, he was shifted to the SMHS Hospital.
A youngster who was attending to Subhan at the SMHS Hospital had seen him bleeding at Sopore hospital and accompanied him to Srinagar.
“Forces stopped the ambulance at a number of places on Sopore-Srinagar road. They were asking us if he got injured while throwing stones,” he said.
