Kashmir: government stops Dargah chalo march

Srinagar: The government forces used force to stop protest rallies on Friday, which were marching towards Dargah Hazratbal as part of call given by the joint resistance.

Protest rallies were carried out in various parts of old city here but were prevented by the forces.

At Lal Bazar, a peaceful procession was stopped by forces at main chowk Lal Bazar. The forces also resorted to teargas shelling resulting in minor injuries to three persons.

At Shah Mohalla, Awantabawan, Soura, a local imam, Arsalan Ahmad, was detained after he led a protest rally following which announcement was made on loudspeakers of mosques to come out to protest against the Imam’s detention. In no time, people including women came out on roads and surrounded the government forces who had taken the imam captive. He was released forthwith.

Similar rally was also taken out at Malla Bagh which was foiled by the government forces. A rally was taken out in Rainwara also but the forces stopped them people triggering clashes.
