In a first, Hurriyat to honour Burhan with ‘Medal of Greatness’

Srinagar: For the first time in the history of the Kashmiri armed resistance, a pro-freedom political grouping has decided to honour a militant with a medal.
Announcing Tamga-e-Azeemat, Medal of Greatness, for Hizb commander Burhan Wani for his ‘dedication, sincerity and bravery’, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that it was because of Burhan’s efforts that the entire J&K, “from Ladakh to Kishtwar and Banihal to Baramulla”, was on roads demanding the right to self determination from India.
“His martyrdom has added a new life to the ongoing freedom struggle in Jammu & Kashmir. He has united and strengthened the pro-freedom voice of this troubled state and the entire nation is feeling pride in paying tributes to this Great Mujahid,” Geelani said.
Geelani said Burhan’s parents are the proud parents of a brave son and deserve tribues.
The ailing resistance leader also thanked the Turkish government for supporting and recommending the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) fact-finding team to Jammu & Kashmir and hoped that the other Muslim countries too will raise their voice in support of the demand for right to self determination of the subjugated people of Kashmir.
“It is not only human and moral duty of theirs but it is the religious obligation of all the Muslim and Islamic countries of the world to stand and support their oppressed brethren of Jammu Kashmir,” Geelani said.
While commenting over the statement of UNO Chief’s Office that “UNO is continuously monitoring the situations in Jammu & Kashmir”, the Hurriyat Chairperson said that this world body has so far failed in implementation of its own resolutions in the disputed region of Kashmir.
He questioned that why is UNO unmoved over the bloody streets and the genocide of the people of “Indian occupied” Kashmir?
“Why is this world body silently watching the brutal killings of the minor children in disputed Jammu & Kashmir at the hands of the Indian occupational forces? Why are they satisfied on just counting and calculating the innocent killings in Kashmir?” he said.
Geelani appealed to the UN and world leaders to come to the rescue of the oppressed and subjugated people of Jammu & Kashmir and impress upon India to cooperate in holding referendum in the troubled state and save the entire South Asia from war.
While expressing his satisfaction over the yesterday’s women’s program, Geelani praised the disciplined and courageous protest program of the daughters and sisters of the nation. Geelani also strongly condemned the use of force by the government forces against the women who were protesting peacefully in their respective localities.
Geelani expressed concern over the reports that a few people are continuously defying the protest programs of the joint leadership at some locations and the people are not allowed to move even in the relaxation hours.
“Geelani sahab once again appealed the youths to check such episodes and incidents and don’t allow immoral and anti-Islam actions at any cost and maintain strict discipline and dignity of the freedom struggle of Kashmir. He said that these actions damage our sacred freedom movement for which our martyrs have spilled their hot blood,” he said.
