SRINAGAR: Raja Farooq Haider Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-N has been elected as the new prime minister of Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK).
According to a Radio Pakistan report, voting for election of new Leader of the House was held in Muzzafarabad on Sunday.
Khan secured 38 votes while a joint candidate of Muslim Conference and PTI, Ghulam Mohi ud din Dewan, and Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen of Pakistan Peoples’ Party bagged five votes each, the report said.
Oath taking ceremony of the newly-elected prime minster would be held in Muzzafarabad on Sunday afternoon, it said, adding that the PaK president will administer oath to him.
Meanwhile, Pakistan prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, has congratulated Khan on being elected the prime minister.
“In his facilitation message he expressed the confidence that new Prime Minister will work for the development and prosperity of the people of PaK. New PM will support the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just and legitimate struggle for their right of self-determination,” the radio report said.
