Srinagar: A youth whose video India Today news channel broadcast claiming that he was a stone-thrower paid by Syed Ali Geelani has come forward to contest the claims.
Bilal Ahmad Dar of Srinagar’s Noorbagh said that CRPF troopers shot his video in 2008 at Chattabal in their custody. “I was riding my bike when the CRPF troopers caught hold of me when I was moving on a motorcycle. They thrashed me and a CRPF officer forcibly extracted this statement from me after torturing me,” said Bilal, who is working as a tailor.
He said the video has dented his credibility among people and has defamed him.
“I am feeling threat to my life since the video was played on the channel. I went to the Aaj Tak office today but they claimed the reporter was an outsider,” he said.
Bilal said he never saw the video on any channel before but it surfaced on India Today TV channel. He said the government should act against the channel for showing the video.
The channel had claimed that Bilal was caught in Anantnag and that pro-freedom leaders paid him money to throw stones at government troops. “I have never met Syed Ali Geelani nor am I doing drugs,” he said.
