Srinagar: People in Khonmoh village, in the outskirts of capital Srinagar, held massive protest demonstrations after the body of a local youth was recovered from the industrial area. The village, around 20 kilometers from here in Pulwama district, is one of the oldest industrial hubs in the Valley.
The deceased youngster has been identified as Aqib Ahmed Lone, son of Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of Lone Mohalla of the village.
A local news agency quoting Lone’s family said that Aqib was missing since he offered funeral prayers for a local youth who had succumbed to his injuries a few days ago in a Srinagar hospital. “He was part of the funeral procession and after that we failed to trace him,” said his father, demanding an investigation into the death.
A large number of people staged protests and demanded a probe into the “mysterious disappearance and killing of the teenager”.
Station House Officer Pantha Chowk police station Muhammad Ayoub described the death as a murder case. “We have registered an FIR and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
