ISLAMABAD: Pakistan foreign office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said on Wednesday that India calling Kashmir its part is violation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. Talking to PTV news, the spokesman said that Pakistan would contest this claim of India at every legal and diplomatic forum.
The spokesman said that Pakistan’s main concern was human rights violations in Kashmir and regretted that the international community remained oblivious to the situation.
The spokesman emphasised that the recent wave of protest in Kashmir must not be taken as a fresh movement of resistance, for the freedom movement began in 1989.
He dismissed the idea of any external force behind Kashmiris’ resistance movement and termed it an internal drive of Kashmir’s younger generation against the atrocities of Indian security forces which they are suffering for the last 26 years.
He called upon the international community and media to support the Kashmir issue and highlight the atrocities being committed in Indian-held Kashmir.
On prospects of foreign-secretary level dialogue between Pakistan and India, Zakaria said that resumption had been delayed due to the situation in Kashmir. He said routine talks between the border security forces of the two countries have not been affected.
