Kishtwar Imam to government: withdraw cases or face consequences

SRINAGAR: Imam of Jamia Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, has asked the government to immediately withdraw two cases registered against five persons or face protests.
The police this week registered cases under 120 B (Criminal Conspiracy), 124 A (Sedition) and 153 A (Promoting Religious Enmity) at Police Station Kishtwar against five persons.
In his Friday sermon, the Imam said in case the administration and the police didn’t withdraw the cases, the people will protest.
“In case police made arrest of anyone whose name is mentioned in the FIRs, a call for strike and protest will be issued,” he said, as per the media reports.
He accused the government of India of using “excessive force” against the unarmed protesters in Kashmir.
“The forces are using pellet guns is gross violation of the human rights. Government of India is following the Israeli policies to crush the ongoing freedom struggle in Jammu and Kashmir. The people fight against the Indian occupation,” he said, asking New Delhi to address the Kashmir issue.
