Indian channel’s ‘propaganda’ news report evokes criticism, protest

Bandipora: People in Bandipora, including the traders’ federation, on Wednesday condemned a New Delhi-based Hindi news channel for its “propaganda” report on Gurez, even as protests were also staged in the north Kashmir tehsil.
The local president Mohammad Yousuf Para said that the interview of a few men in an army camp at the Line of Control (LoC) does not prove any point.
“Gurez, despite being a highly militarised zone, has always participated in the freedom struggle. The tehsil has been observing shutdown like the other parts of Kashmir,” he said.  “The insensitive report has tried to divert attention from the main cause. It is propaganda to spark violence.”
Reports were received of the people of Gurez staging protests against the news report.
