SRINAGAR: Two days after women’s resistance organisation Dukhtaran-e-Millat hung a banner extolling Hizb commander Burhan Wani in the corridor of the SMHS Hospital’s emergency, another women’s pro-freedom organisation put up a banner on the same wall.
The banner, which has Burhan’s picture, was placed early in the morning by a few veiled members of the. The message on the banner in Urdu translates: “Martyrs are telling you, don’t forget our blood.”
Like the DeM banner, this banner was also photographed by many with their cell phones. “There is no doubt that he is a legend and will remain in our hearts and minds forever. He has showed the path of freedom struggle to the young generation, we must embrace his saying as he was our hero,” said Atif, a boy from old city.
A woman from Trehgam, Kupwara, whose son had been injured in the protests that erupted in the aftermath of Burhan’s killing, wept underneath the banner, saying, “Oh Burhan, my life.” She said mothers of Kashmir are ready to sacrifice their sons for freedom.
“They have killed out our lion,” said an old woman, comparing Burhan with Ishfaq Majeed, the legendary JKLF commander.
